Quilts We Have Given Away
Fidgeting is a never-ending challenge for a caregiver, whether it is an adult with dementia or a child with special needs. Anxiety, fear, stress from new situations, unfamiliar surroundings or just a change in a daily routine all lead to fidgeting. As the adult or child attempts to control their feelings of anxiety, fear, and stress they often begin repetitive actions such as rearranging the same items over and over again, pacing, rocking, or verbalizing the same words or sounds repeatedly. As their anxiety increases, the fidgeting actions become more intense leading to a vicious cycle.
Managing an adult or child when they are in the midst of a cycle of anxiety and fidgeting is made more difficult when one tries to stop their frenzied activity. It is necessary to distract and refocus their attention to something less disrupting, less destructive. Fidget quilts are an easy, safe, and convenient way to prevent and/or break the cycle of fidgeting.
